According to recent diabetes reports, doctors and nurses are providing people with type 2 diabetes with medication rather than taking through the specifics of losing weight and taking more exercise . Research at Bristol University indicates that some 36 per cent of newly diagnosed people with diabetes were given medication in the first month.
The study, which will be presented at the Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference in Glasgow, claims that a lack of staff training and a dearth of dieticians was to blame for the problem. Furthermore, the Quality and Outcomes Framework could be part of the blame.
Dr. Rob Andrews who researched the study reportedly said: “If you don’t give patients the chance to understand their disease and don’t let them try and control it with diet and exercise, evidence shows that for all the time they have diabetes, they don’t focus on diet and exercise.”
