The Accu-Chek® Mobile is aimed at high frequency testers with busy lifestyles. The new meter uses a unique cassette concept, a continuous tape with 50 tests and a single drum containing six lancets, both of which are approved as household waste. For patients, this eliminates the need for single test strips and single lancets, as well as sharps bins, a major advancement in simplifying the testing process.
Self-monitoring of blood glucose is not always easy to adopt, with many patients testing less than recommended due to lack of time, complicated handling of test strips, or the wish to be discreet. Patients who fail to test (in line with healthcare professional guidelines and management goals) increase the risk of hypoglycaemia and complications.
The Director of Diabetes Care at Roche, Brett Lewis, reportedly commented: “It is clear our revolutionary cassette-based system sets new standards in blood glucose testing and eliminates worry over issues such as waste disposal. Accu-Chek® Mobile’s comprehensive features with five-second test time, only 0.3µl blood volume and most important the strip-free mode of operation makes it a clear step forward in diabetes care.”
At this stage, the Accu-Chek® Mobile is being launched exclusively in partnership with Boots, who will retail the meter at £49.99. For more information please visit www.Accu-Chek.co.uk/stripfreemobile
