According to reports from Gambia, the Diabetes Gambia Association has received a donation from a Gambian shipping company, which includes diabetes medication, food and a cash sum. Diabetes Gambia Association is a charitable organisatio, whose aim is to promote and provide care for diabetes patients in the Gambia.
The donation was described by senior officials as being timely. The donation was made by the Jarjeffateh Shipping Express company in the UK, who pledged to help the needy and poor. The organisation is intending to branch out into other ways of helping the Gambia.
Diabetes in Africa is well known as a serious problem, with the erosion of traditional diets and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle affecting million with type 2 diabetes . Often, medication and diabetes equipment is hard to get, particularly in rural areas.
