Heart disease may hide diabetes

According to recent reports, heart disease could be a hidden symptom of diabetes . University of Warwick researchers found that oxidative stress was low in those with heart disease but not type 2 diabetes, whilst heart disease sufferers with high levels also suffered from overt type 2 diabetes .
The results caused some surprise. Sr. Saverio Stranges of the University reportedly commented: “The results were intriguing. We expected to find high levels of oxidative stress in people with a clinical heart condition, such as myocardial infarctio, and people with diabetes . As we thought, the levels were high for diabetics, but there were some discrepancies for people with heart disease.”
He was reported as concluding: “Our findings suggest the observed associations of increased oxidative stress in individuals with heart disease may be dependent on underlying abnormalities in glucose metabolism.”
