According to reports from Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), some 10,000 people will walk for diabetes on World Diabetes Day . The second annual Diabetes walkathon will be held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
The WALK UAE 2008 event will take place in partnership with the Emirates Foundation. Last year, 5,000 people walked for diabetes on World Diabetes Day, according to the ICLDC.
ICLDC medical and research director and consultant Endocrinologist, Dr. Barakat, was reported in the diabetic news as commenting: “walking is proven to be effective in the management and the prevention of Diabetes . Thirty minutes of moderate physical activity daily, such as a brisk walk, helps the body improve the use of its own insulin and wards off Diabetes.”
World Diabetes Day is an internationally celebrated event based around a particular theme every year. Around the globe, thousands of diabetics and non-diabetics come together to spread awareness about diabetes .
